General info about me and my ordinary yet unusual life: I'm the youngest of 3, with 2 big sisters. The older, Kate, lives in Atlanta as a complicated type of social worker which I honestly couldn't explain if I tried. The other, Maggie, lives in philly and works as an assistant fashion designer currently at a company that designs maternity clothes. My dad's a painter (of paintings not houses) and my mom's an elementary school art teacher. You might wonder where I came from a math/econ major, to this day no one knows, :-). I was born and raised in philly but both my parents are from boston so my extended family is mostly in that area. I went to progressively larger public schools ending with a high school of nearly 3000 kids. I then went to a much smaller Swarthmore College and immediately went from the top of the academic food chain to the middle, a tough but educational switch. I'm now winding up an unsuccessful job hunt, prepping for my gres & gmat, and beginning to apply to mba and finance programs. In regards to my disability, it's a genetic disease called SMA, spinal muscular atrophy, which both Kate and I have had since birth. It effects/kills your motor neurons which control muscles & muscle development. Simply put that means my muscles are very weak. My sister has more strength than me in her arms giving her greater independence, I'm able to use my right hand and left foot. All in all, I try to live my life as though my disability is only one piece of who I am and not my main characteristic and for the most part it works. It does put a crimp in my social life, makes a love life unsuccessful to date (probably being a math nerd didn't help either), and isn't helping me get hired, but what can you do.
