Overview:

Hi!  I'm new to all of this!  Used to be a very active person but just too dog gone tired most of the time any more.  Even being on the internet wears me out!  Just too much excitement going on!

I have dreams of writing a book (doing the research a bit at a time over the past 5 years) and have some interviewing of old timers to do yet!

I, also, have dreams of building a big Center (a monolithic dome, of course!) with all kinds of adaptive equipment - something of a resort for us, a place to hold Conferences, reunions, and experience new things.

For now, I'm trying to figure out how to make a very dynamic website and streamline things for my cousin's business... I just wish I could find out how to get past the url registration.  help!

Check out the current website (not done by me!) and watch the videos on the NEWS page...  http://www.assistivetherapy.com

How has your disability changed your life...for better or worse?:

I utilize the eVO therapy cycle indoors to keep the stiffness, ache, and spasticity in my back and legs under control.  Since I cannot walk long distances but need the exercise to keep my diabetes under control, this cycle is my only recourse.  I would rather use the cycle at home at my own leisure (which is usually about 2 a.m.- 4 a.m. and later in the p.m.).  I am so stiff when I start that I need the motor-assistance, then, after warming up I can use the over-pedal feature to go at my own pace.

I'm quite surprised to not find cycling under the adaptive sports list!   With the eVO, it levels the playing field as an activity.

How have you overcome obstacles?:

I have learned to make lots of friends at the stores I go to frequently... if I need help, they are there.  Otherwise, it's like everyone else.  Learning to speak up has been a big thing with me.

Encouraging places to be more adaptive has been a goal.

What is your most embarrassing moment?: The first I cannot even mention... way over the top!  Hmmm.... standing up in front of thousands at a Sci-Fi Con in Atlanta a number of years ago to get the crowd to surprise some of the B5 guests with singing "Happy Birthday"... letting the crowd know at the outset that I'm hearing impaired and having someone way in the back stand up, cup their mouth to shout something at me.. and having to have an interpreter tell me what they were saying.  NOOOO! Worse!  Going and seeing Star Wars 17 times... finding out in public after the 17th time that I cannot read Yoda's lips because... he's a MUPPET, not a short actor in makeup.
What is your most triumphant moment?: Remembering 20 steps out of 21 on my PHotoshop Test... then finding out that it was an open book.
What are your dreams...for yourself and your peers?: I would like to get around the Country, if not some places in the world, to show the eVO!  It is a fabulous invention that helps those with disAbilities regain muscle tone, strengthen their trunk and limbs, give independence in their therapy, reducing spasticity, allowing for regular cardiovascular workout, and brain patterning... in one simple unit!  I am thrilled when someone tries it out for the first time and sees the genius of it!  Ultimately, we would love to build a Center (a monolithic dome facility) with PTs, Physiatrists, and little POD Places for families to stay, loads of fun, slides from the 2nd floor to the first, heated pools, and all the latest in adaptive equipment to play with - leveling out the playing field for families!
