Disability Description: My disability weakens my arms, legs, and forces me to use a power wheelchair to get around. I was born with this neuromuscular disease and stopped walking around 9 or 10 years old.

How has your disability changed your life...for better or worse?: It has forced me to look at life much differently and convert challenges into opportunities. It is not easy being in a wheelchair, but then again life isn't easy for anyone else either. Everyone has different challenges and it is how you deal with these challenges and overcome them that make life worth living! I have definitely become more appreciative of the people and events that make up my life, because I know that each moment is precious and that our time on this Earth is limited. Why wait to do something you've always wanted...do it now!!! Go for it!
How have you overcome obstacles?: Luckily for me, I have fabulous parents. They laid a great foundation for me early on in life that led me down very positive paths toward the place where I am today. They taught me to dream big and never give up. They taught me that education was important, but to rely on your own thoughts and not someone else's thoughts. And to see each wall before you as one that you can climb over, get around, or simply bust through. Overcoming obstacles has not been easy, but when you believe that you are going to succeed when going into each challenge...the challenge just seems simpler to solve or overcome.
What are your dreams...for yourself and your peers?: I want to empower persons with all kinds of disabilities. I want to help people who feel they can't do something, realize that they can...even if it is using a slightly different approach or adapted method. This why I love adaptive sports and I love the Internet. And why I have created xAble.com, am so involved with Power Soccer, and want to do so much more with and for the disabled community. Working together we can achieve a great deal and bring light and happiness to so many lives.
